Let’s direct our attention to the elephant in the room… You’ve probably noticed an increase in health, fitness and weight-loss posts here on Strawberry Squeeze. You’re probably wondering where it’s all coming from. Well, it’s coming up to summer and my insecurities are getting the best of me – those beautiful models on the Love Island advert really don’t help my self-esteem.
I’ve just got a hot tub and when I jumped in the other night, I was more aware that my ageing 26-year-old body isn’t what it used to be! I’ve been trying out a range of supplements and meal replacement powders, and decided to share my thoughts on some of the best (… and some of the worst!) I’ve come across.
What are SlimFast Vitality Powders?
Today I’m going to be talking about the SlimFast Advanced Vitality Powders are meal replacement shakes with a new formula. The powders contain advanced ingredients known to improve wellbeing and boost energy and metabolism – essential factors when losing weight and expertly designed to help you to ‘feel good’ on the inside and out. Sounds great, huh? I’ll be the judge of that…
I’ve stocked up on 3 packages (440g per package) of SlimFast Advanced Vitality Powders in Raspberry Crush, Chocolate Intensity and Salted Caramel Infusion, and here’s what I thought about them:
SlimFast Advance Vitality Powder Packaging
Usually, when I’m reviewing products I don’t go into too much detail about the packaging because when you’re buying something like this, it’s not how pretty something looks, it’s about whether it works or not. HOWEVER, I couldn’t help but write something about how gorgeous the SlimFast Advance Vitality Powder packaging is.
The vibrant colours and clean typography is truly refreshing, something that would definitely catch your eye in the high-street or in the supermarket, so kudos SlimFast! There is so much information clearly printed on the front of the product, I feel comfortable with what I’m putting in my body before I’ve even taken a closer look. It also comes in a resealable bag, which is ideal from a practical perspective.
Sound like I’m exaggerating? Even my fiancé saw them on the side and said “Ohh, what’s this? Can I have some? It looks tasty!”. I reckon a lot of research went into this packaging.. But a pretty product isn’t going to help me meet my goals.
What’s in SlimFast Advance Vitality Powder?
SlimFast Advanced Vitality Powders claim to be fortified with all the vital macro and micronutrients needed for when you’re losing weight and have the added benefit.
I took a look at the ingredients (which you can find all of them on the packaging or on their website here), and there were a few that caught my eye, and here’s why:
- Biotin: Your resting metabolic rate is elevated and food breaks down faster when consuming biotin, which is why there’s a link to biotin and accelerating weight loss.
- Chromium: Chromium stimulates the activity of enzymes involved in the metabolism of glucose for energy and the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol.
- Iron: Low levels of iron are associated with fatigue, extreme tiredness and weight gain, therefore increasing iron intake can improve weight loss.
- Green tea extract: One of the key compounds in green tea is Epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, a potent antioxidant thought of by some as a sort of kryptonite to body fat. Supporters say it reduces fat gain and enhances fat-burning.
- 23 vitamins and minerals: SlimFast Advance Vitality Shakes include more than a third of your recommended daily allowance per serving
You only need to read the ingredients to see that SlimFast is focusing on natural ingredients to maintain blood sugar levels, support a healthy metabolism and reduce tiredness. Each SlimFast Advanced Vitality Shake contains 265 calories, is high in protein and high in fibre whilst having no added sugar – not to mention they are both vegetarian and vegan-friendly. I can get on board with this type of product
To prepare your shake take 250ml cold skimmed milk, add 3 level scoops of powder to the milk (scoop in the bag), cover and shake well for approximately 20 seconds. For best results use a blender and ice.
Conclusion
The best bit about SlimFast (other than the fact is ridiculously tasty! The raspberry crush one is my fav) is that it has 26g of protein per serving and there is no added sugar. This might seem like a small benefit, but trust me – this is so important. Sugar is incredibly addictive and these sugar cravings make us feel depleted of energy and ruin our weight-loss progress by giving into naughty treats.
I’ve been planning on going sugar-free for some time now, but I’ve been so apprehensive about taking the plunge. I know it isn’t going to be easy, having read a lot about going sugar-free. However, knowing that I’ll be able to include these meal replacements into my diet makes the transition as I cut down my sugar intake is a lot less daunting.
SlimFast meals are not designed to be your only food but to add to a balanced nutritious meal and healthy snacks every day. I say this on every weight-loss review – these products can only help weight loss as part of a calorie controlled diet and an active lifestyle – they don’t deliver miracles – so don’t expect one.
I completely understand why people are anxious to try new things when it comes to weight-loss products, and rightly so; there are so many products on the market that are packed full of synthetic rubbish. Luckily though, SlimFast Advanced Vitality Powders are crammed of fibre, vitamins and minerals
SlimFast Advance Vitality Powder in available in Raspberry Crush, Chocolate Intensity and Salted Caramel Infusion from Boots, Superdrug, Sainsbury and Asda. Alternatively, you can order SlimFast products online from Amazon.co.uk.
