The past couple of months have been so difficult to keep quiet – but now I can finally let the cat out of the bag. S and I always daydream of the places we’d love to visit, but we’ve yet to go further than a short break in the UK. I figured enough was enough, and told him on Christmas morning, “it’s time to pack your bag baby”…
Besides backpacking in Thailand for a few weeks, we constantly yearn after a snowy mountain holiday in Scandinavian. So secretly, I arranged a trip for us in January! Since his passport was expired and he had no idea what I was planning, it was a little difficult, since I was determined to keep it from him.
We set off on our adventure Friday 22 January via London. We will grab breakfast and visit the National History Museum before heading over to the airport, where we will then jump on a flight to Oslo, Norway in the afternoon!
I’ve arranged for us to stay in a gorgeous AirBnB apartment with a private roof terrace slap bang in central Oslo. After picking up some groceries, I’ve booked us into a real Scandinavian spa in Oslo to unwind and relax.
In the morning we’ll wrap up warm for a day at Nordmarka forest. Nordmarka is the mostly forested region which makes up the northern part of Oslo, Norway. The area called “Nordmarka” also extends into the municipalities of Hole, Ringerike, Lunner, Jevnaker and Nittedal. This is pretty incredible, since it’s only 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We will grab some waffles and coffee at Frognerseteren log cabin, nestled between mountains and sky-scrapping trees! We are then cross-country skiing from Frognerseteren via Ullevålseter to Sognsvann. The route is popular for it’s diverse terrains, with good views along the way!
My Norwegian is pretty shoddy/non existence, so planning all this was pretty difficult!
We’ll probably head back to the apartment to warm up before going for dinner and drinks in Oslo. The next day will be the last day, which makes me sad already. We will have time for a little sightseeing before catching our flight home in the evening. We’ll have some dinner in London before heading down south, arriving in Cornwall.
S’s face was priceless when he opened a box to find his passport, a Norway travel guide and plane tickets. Now the countdown begins before we leave! No better way to start the new year!
So excited for you both!
Sounds great ..look forward to hear how it went
