You don’t have to travel across the world to have a great time. Sometimes, the best trips are right under your nose! S and I have just booked another getaway to climb mount Snowdon for my birthday, after swooning over pictures of Cwm Idwal . There’s a few other places I want to visit this year, so I’ve popped together some of the top UK travel ideas for the new year.
For The Thrill Seekers
Some people like to have a lot of excitement in their lives. For them, a trip isn’t about relaxing, it’s about having as much fun as possible. They want to go away and have an adrenaline fuelled time! Luckily, you’ll find lots of exciting travel ideas in the UK that fit this description. Think about taking a trip to a theme park like Alton Towers. There are loads of fast and exciting rides for you to enjoy over and over again.
There’s also accommodation on-site, meaning you can stay for as long as you like. It’s home to some of the fastest roller coasters in the UK and is renowned as one of the best theme parks around. An ideal place for thrill seekers that want to go on a trip that’s a little more fast paced than usual! I think it’s the perfect place to go on a bank holiday weekend if you’re up for a serious adrenaline boost.
For Romantic Couples
For those lovely couples out there you’ll find plenty of awesome romantic travel ideas in the UK. One of the most popular ideas is taking a trip to a nice cabin or lodge in a romantic location. There are loads of lovely lodges situated in incredibly scenic places around the UK. It doesn’t get better than lying beside a roaring fire with your partner. Loads of cabins and lodges are self-catered, so you can whip up a romantic meal for two as well!
It’s the perfect idea for a Valentine’s Day gift that you’ll both enjoy. You could go for a weekend or book an entire week off work and make it a mini holiday. Either way, it’s a great way for you to travel and share a lovely experience with a loved one. Definitely my number one pick for romantic getaways this year.
For Tourists
Sometimes, you just want to go on a short trip and be a tourist for a few days. Even if you live in the UK, you can still be a tourist somewhere. The top destination is, obviously, London. If you’ve never been to London before, I recommend you go! It’s the perfect place to act like a tourist and see some of the iconic sights and scenes. There’s Buckingham Palace, The Houses Of Parliament and The London Eye too!
Also, London is home to many other amazing attractions; there’s something for everyone. It will take more than a day to explore the city properly; I can tell you that. Great for families that want to have a nice break and travel away from home for a few days.
And there you have it, the top travel ideas for 2016 in the UK. The next time you want to go on a little trip, give one of these ideas a go!
We’re so lucky in the UK as there are so many fabulous places to visit. My recommendations are Great Langdale in the Lake District and St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall
I live quite close to London but I’ve never done the touristy thing! I might treat my mum to a day & night so we can be tourists for the day
I love visiting theme parks, and of course London is always a favourite place to visit. We’re off for a few days in Blackpool this year – we spent our honeymoon there and our silver wedding anniversary :o)
Whenever we have overseas guests the first place they want to see is Stonehenge. It’s such an amazing site and I still enjoy visiting even though I’ve been there (almost!) a million times, lol!
So many places in the UK i’d still love to go to, like the Lake District!
I’m very lucky to live near the coast, we often take for granted the little things we have on our doorsteps, shame the good old British weather can spoilt it!
Never been to Snowdon. I live in Walres though, I should go there. I’m so unfit though lol
I love holidaying in the UK we have some fantastic hidden gems, Snowdonia National Park area to name one is breath-taking
I’m thinking of staying in a lodge/log cabin for my mini moon! 🙂
We have booked our holidays for this year! Off to North Yorkshire in July then October we’re off to North Wales for a few days then getting the ferry to Ireland for a week. I love the UK and Ireland, feel safe here too!
We love UK family holidays, can’t beat Cornwall for a beautiful beach

So nice to read a post about UK places 🙂 With air travel so easily available so many don’t appreciate the wonderful places we have here!
As an American living in the middle of England, I have to say my favourite family trips are always to Wales – climbing up Snowdon on a sunny clear day should be on everyone’s bucket list!
I do 2-3 hols / short breaks in the UK each year as well as a couple of long haul hols 🙂 My top 3 uk visits:
1. London – so many museums (FREE!) to do and they are loads of fun, loads of shopping plus the touristy stuf like big ben
2. Gloucester – great base for exploring Glastonbury, Wells, Cheddar, Wookie Hole etc and you have the forest of Dean as well with loads of different accommodation options
3. West Wales – you have miles of amazing coast line pus activities such as surfing and kayaking and you have Oakwood theme park, National Botanical Grdens of Wales etc there
