Why I’m Loving Bohemian Conservatories: Investing And Decorating

I’ve been in my home over a year now, and I’m absolutely loving every minute of it. I bought a new build, so that gave me plenty of time to plan and save to decorate my home exactly how I wanted it. Now I’m settled and I still can’t help but find little projects to keep me busy, especially now I have more free time, since going self-employed.

I’m currently working with my boyfriend’s mum to create a bohemian style day bed/meditation spot in my sheltered basement space under the garden decking. As you can imagine, my Pinterest has gone into overdrive, collating bohemian inspiration. I got so caught up in it, I even booked a holiday to Marrakech – but that’s a story for another time!

So, why are we talking conservatories?

To the point… Ever since I decided to create this indoor/outdoor bohemian space, I’ve been sucked into hundreds of streams, pages and collections of bohemian style conservatory. I’ve now seen conservatories in a completely different light (no pun intended!).

To help you decide whether adding a conservatory is right for you, here’s everything that you need to know so that you can make an informed decision. I’ve also popped in a few tips and ideas for the decor of your conservatory once it’s been put up, to help you create a space that you love. What can you use your conservatory for?

Traditionally, conservatories were made simply as extra living space, but today there’s no limit to what they can be used for. From a playroom for the kids to a family dining room or yoga, conservatories can be used for all sorts of things. If you plan on incorporating the conservatory into your home by removing a wall, this will need planning permission. However, in most cases, if you’re adding the conservatory without any structural changes, it won’t.

How hard to build are they?

When it comes to how difficult to build a conservatory is, it depends on a range of factors. These include whether you want to simply add it to the existing structure of your house or whether you want to remove one of the walls from your home. If this is the case, the process will take twice as long, but the result will be better.

While you can build your own conservatory with a DIY kit, it’s best to hire a professional. This will mean that you can opt for whatever conservatory style that you want. As well as the fact that you can choose to add a Guardian conservatory roof, should you want to.

What’s the cost like?

Again, this depends on a range of factors. The more complex your conservatory design, the more likely it is to be expensive. The DIY kits are the cheapest option. However, the quality isn’t always there. It’s best to work out what your budget is and then use that to decide which option is best. Don’t be afraid to shop around to get the best quote – it’s only natural that you want your money to go as far as possible.

How can you make your conservatory a homey, comfortable place?

The most important thing is to opt for double glazed glass and underfloor heating, to ensure that it’s a warm space. As for the decor, it’s best that it links to the decor in the rest of your home in some way. This could be in terms of colour, style, or design. If you’re stuck for ideas, there’s plenty of inspiration online. Your conservatory should be just like any other space in your home; smart, stylish and inviting.
