I departed from my Mother’s nest when I was 18 years-old and lived the student life in Newport. After realising that south Wales and photography wasn’t for me, I transferred back to Cornwall to finish my degree and pursue my career in marketing. I was living in a shared house over-looking the Fal River, when half way through my second year of university I was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to live, study and work in Australia as part of a student exchange.
I attended Griffith university, a school sitting in the top 4% of global universities on three of the major and most credible university world rankings. I studied social science and consumerism modules, which was incredible and I met some beautiful people that I’ll love forever! After jumping 15,000ft out of a plane, riding an elephant through a jungle in Asia, drinking champagne in Auckland and snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, the time came to say goodbye and return to England.
Stapler Bunny, (similar available here) Carpe Diem by Karen Hofstetter framed art print $46 available at Society 6, Home Essence Hobby Table Lamp £22.61 available at Wayfair
I’ve been back living in England for almost two years now, since my trip away (and now on my way to finishing the final modules of my business and marketing undergraduate degree via distance learning). Occupied with new jobs, university and everyday life getting in the way, I have no idea where the time has gone. Either way, when I returned to England to live with my parents in summer 2012, I found myself in a teenagers room, full of dust, which had been transformed into a storage room – it wasn’t very glamourous, to say the least!
After paying off my debt, paying private university fees to finish my degree and buying myself a new car, it was about time to treat myself. I’ve started re-decorating my bedroom to turn it from a dingy storage room, to a beautiful living space. I’m not home a lot, but when I am, it’s nice to have somewhere to relax and call my own.
My boyfriend and I are saving to get a mortgage, so with a new house on the horizon at the end of the year, it’s exciting to start collating home décor (additionally, making my bedroom a nicer environment is helping me hold out a little longer and get a slightly bigger deposit before taking the leap!).
Newgate Clocks Timepill Wall Clock Cave Black £50, Orla Kiely Multi Stem Storage Jar 1 Litre £23, Carrington push button vintage style phone £36 all available at Hurn and Hurn
I only have a small bedroom and so can’t do a great deal with the furniture and to give the illusion of space, I’d like to keep the room modern and minimalistic. In the first row of pictures is basically all I want my low white coffee table desk to consist of, as well as my MacBook Pro. The bunny stapler was actually a gift from a lovely friend!
She gave it to me on my last day when I finished at my most recent job. It was such a lovely surprise, and funny (as I was always nicking other peoples staplers because I kept breaking mine!). It’s already found it’s way onto my desk, so this is an exception to the wish list, but I wanted to include it anyway, as I absolutely love it!
Bocasa Conny Blanket £21.66 available at Wayfair, Grey & Buff Rattan Square Wicker Log Basket £40 avaliable at the Basket Company, Zaida Zig Zag Cushion Cover £30.57 available at Wayfair
You may have seen from recent posts that I’ve been inspired by the scandinavian style, and what better way to achieve the look than throwing in some chevron cushions, washed out wicker baskets and grey blankets! I’m currently loving orla kiely, new gate wall clocks and vintage phones as well! I might be mixing styles here, but I’m trying to keep mono tones with splashes of colour.
I’m super fussy when it comes to lighting in my bedroom. I insist on low lighting, and I like to be able to control the direction. I fell in love with the chrome studio floor lamp on the Lighting Majestic website, and luckily they have agreed to give my readers the chance to win one of their own! I received mine a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it!
It took me just a few minutes to set up, with an no fuss, easy to assemble ‘twist’ mechanism. It’s ultra-modern and adaptable for whatever the style of your room is. If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning a studio lamp worth £80.64 from Lighting Majestic then just following the simply instructions below.
