Introducing Test Card: Taking Control Of Your Health In 2021

It’s been almost a year since the first Covid-19 lockdown and since then, our lives have changed so much. Masks have become part of the essentials when leaving the house, and it’s been so long since we’ve hugged friends and family. We’re all staying at home to stop the spread of the virus and trying to avoid putting pressure on the NHS.

Last year there was a growing concern that people weren’t going to their local GP or the hospital when they needed to, in fear of contracting Covid-19 or putting unnecessary stress on the healthcare industry. Whilst I can understand this mentality, it’s more important than ever that we look after our physical and mental health during this turbulent time.

Taking control of your health

Did you know, women get UTIs up to 30 times more often than men do. Also, as many as 4 in 10 women who get a UTI will get at least one more within six months. Women get UTIs more often because a woman’s urethra (the tube from the bladder to where the urine comes out of the body) is shorter than a man’s.

What does that mean? It means during lockdown, there’s a high probability you’ll experience having an untreated UTI, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe.

Debunking the myths

It’s so easy to avoid going to the doctors during lockdown, especially when you think you can find a home remedy, such as drinking cranberry juice. Believe me, though, these home remedies absolutely do not work, and the best thing you can do is get tested and get on a course of treatment (unless you want to drag out having a UTI any longer!).

Introducing Test Card

I was recently introduced to Test Card, an award-winning medtech enterprise that has launched an at-home, non-invasive UTI testing kit that turns a smartphone camera into a clinical-grade scanner to detect UTIs such as cystitis.

I received one of their UTI test kits to check out for myself and the purpose of this review.

Ease of use

Downloading the Test Card app and using it was so easy. To get started, follow the instructions on the envelope. You can download the app using your Apple or Android device.

Upon opening the app you’re given the option to register your kit before watching a brief instructional video. The cute animation provides you with everything you need to know about the test before you begin. There are also instructions on the packaging, too.

After watching the video I progressed onto the next part of the process which offered step-by-step instructions. This is really helpful because you don’t have to remember anything (which is great for me as I have the memory of a goldfish).

There are 2 UTI test strips in a packet so you can have another one on hand in case you feel you might be developing an infection in the future.

Getting your results

Once you’ve completed the steps you’ll find out if you have a UTI in as little as 60 seconds. There’s a countdown timer on the app that automatically begins ticking down after you’ve scanned your test. This gives another level of clarity when you’re waiting for your results.

The results are simple and clear – giving you complete peace of mind. This is so much easier than trying to decipher if a test is positive or negative based on colour changing strips.

Speak to your doctor

If your results come back positive, you can share this information with your doctor. They’ll be able to recommend the best treatment so that you get rid of the UTI.

This means you’ll be able to get treated quickly and efficiently without needing multiple trips to your local GP. It also means you’ll know exactly what the problem is, without going backward and forward with multiple tests.
