I had the pleasure to interview the lovely beauty blogger, Jess who writes over at Dungarees & Donuts to get an insider to what products she uses, blogging advice and her favourite reads. x
Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Jessica Thristan and I am a beauty and lifestyle blogger from the West Midlands. Also I am a university student studying film and television production. I am 19 years old and love everything beauty and fashion.
Why did you initially decide to start a blog?
My best friend had a blog and it looked so much fun, she was meeting all these nice people, reviewing products and most of all she had a space to express herself, which at the time was exactly what I needed I never expected my blog to get as many followers as it has and I love blogging it’s a huge part of my life.
What beauty product are you currently loving right now?
The Miss Manga Mega Volume mascara, although there are a lot of fixed reviews on the mascara it is one of the best ones I’ve owned for a while, it gives you huge lashes and the bottom lashes look as full as the top one, win win.
Three hair, skin care or make up tips you’d like to share with us?
- Don’t wash your hair every day, it leaves it in a worse condition. If you wash it every other day it helps the natural oils.
- When not wearing a lipstick/lipgloss apply a lip balm it leaves your lips extra soft and so when you apply lipstick it makes the lipstick look fuller and more glossy!
- A well known one but drink lots of water it leaves your insides feeling better and it also good for your skin.
What beauty products can you not live without?
Lipstick is the main one, I own over 50 lipsticks and they are so lovely, but I have to put foundation and mascara on every day else I hate leaving the house.
If I gave you £100, what beauty items that you don’t own would you buy?
Some more high end make-up definitely YSL lipstick as it is something I’ve wanted for a while, I’d look for a good high end foundation as I am constantly looking for a one that actually gives me a great coverage on my face. Finally the Urban Decay Naked 3 Pallette read so many good reviews on it, just haven’t got that amount of money to spend on eye-shadow!
Any advice to anyone that wants to start a beauty blog?
Read lots of blogs first, once you know the general idea of what people enjoy reading it’ll build up your reader base straight away, take part in the twitter chats they also boost your ratings and get your blog lots of followers. Good tip do some review posts, people love to know which products are worth a buy.
What are the best aspects of running your own blog? What are the hardest aspects?
I love the fact that people trust me when I write a review and helps them decide whether a product is worth buying, also the creativity behind writing a post, it’s so fun once you’ve got some ideas. The hardest part is thinking of ideas, when you have none you feel like such a bad blogger and get so stressed.
