Autumn is already here. That said, I’m typing this as I’m on my way to Morocco because I’m just not ready to say goodbye to the sun.. But when I get back, it’ll be time to start thinking about keeping warm and cosy in the lead up to Christmas (yes, I’m already excited about the festive season – partially because I have TWO holidays booked over the season already!). Here are a few great ideas.
Throws and Blankets
There’s nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with a great big throw. There are so many different types out there that it’s hard to choose. From thick, chunky knits to teddy bear soft velveteen. You can easily find something that’s great to touch and will match your interior design.
Draft Excluders
These are especially good for older homes. A draft can be a real nuisance. Especially if you’re sat back trying to enjoy the latest television show or a film. Draft excluders go along the bottom of your door and will block any cold air from reaching you. Nowadays there are so many cute designs. Sausage dogs are a particular favourite according to the amount being sold by manufacturers.
Double Glazing
This is a larger scale home improvement, but so worth it. Most new homes come with double glazing already. However, older homes may need an upgrade. Quality Double Glazing will prevent the heat you’ve produced in your home escaping into the outside world. Not only will it keep you warm, but it’ll be good on your purse too.
Blow Heaters
These are great for when you’re waiting for the central heating to kick in. Miniature blow heaters can warm a room in minutes. Just remember to be safety conscious when using them. Make sure that they are never covered over or in contact with any materials. They can easily overheat if you’re not careful.
Winter Mugs
Winter mugs won’t directly contribute to the warmth of your house. But once they’re filled with your favourite hot beverage, they’ll help warm you right up. Novelty Christmas designs are great for December and so cute you won’t want to pack them away once the festivities are over.
Rugs
Carpets are comfy cosy and lovely to step on in the winter months. But if your home has wooden flooring, you don’t have to deny yourself the luxury of soft, warm flooring. Invest in a few rugs to leave about the house. Thick, shag piles are especially lovely.
Underfloor Heating
If rugs aren’t quite doing it for you, but you don’t find much appeal in permanent carpeting, then you could go all out with underfloor heating. This can be installed easily by a professional. It’s great in bathrooms, conservatories and the kitchen. No more frantic searches for your slippers and knitted socks. You’ll be able to tread straight out onto the floor without wincing.
Towel Warmers
Towel rails that heat your towels for when you get out of the steamy confines of the shower. Whoever designed this needs some sort of award. Nestling into a warm, soft, clean and cosy towel after a nice hot bath or shower is divine.
