If you want your home to look great but be more practical at the same time, you’ve come to the right place. Here I have some of my favourite tips that you can use in just about any home.
Keep Pathways Clear
If your pathways aren’t clear, chances are somebody is going to hurt themselves soon. I don’t just mean immediately clear either; if it isn’t easy to navigate around your home, something needs to change.
If you’re constantly bumping into things or stubbing toes, try rearranging things to see how that goes. There are even applications you can use where you input measurements and get recommendations for your layout.
Consider Using Feng Shui
Feng Shui might seem like a load of nonsense to you, but it does have its benefits regardless of the spiritual mumbo jumbo. It can actually make really nice, practical layouts. Do some research and see if you can change anything about your current layout according to feng shui. You never know; the energy in your home might flow much better as a result!
Consider the Whole Family
The whole family needs to be able to use the space practically, not just yourself. Think about how everybody in the house uses certain rooms and whether there’s anything you can do to help. You could even ask their opinion on certain things to see if they come up with anything that could help. Hold a family meeting and write down some notes!
Make the Most of Hidden Storage
Hidden storage is an absolute godsend. You can get storage hidden under the bath tub, under your bed, and other places too. You don’t want to throw everything away, but you don’t necessarily want it on display either. This will make any room look so much better!
Have Different Sources of Lighting
Different sources of lighting make it easy for you to create the kind of ambiance you’re after. Dimmer switches allow you to let in as much light as you like, but you can also have task lighting if you wish.
You really shouldn’t skimp on having task lighting in a room if you need it, such as the kitchen. E27 screw cap bulbs and similar lighting options should do the trick. You’ll be glad you have lots of choice in the end. You can also use things like fairy lights and candles to create a relaxing atmosphere.
Let in Natural Light
Natural light helps people to feel more energised, and is also more suited to certain tasks. For instance, doing your makeup in natural light is always advised, rather than artificial. Make sure you have the option to let in natural light if you need it.
Having a practical home is always a good idea. With these tips, you’ll be able to get so much more done and making your way around will be much easier. If you have any tips of your own that you swear by, feel free to leave them below. Thanks for visiting!
