Making Your Home Warm And Cosy This Winter

This time of year, we’re all spending a lot of time at home. Outside the weather is unpleasant, with a lot of rain showers that you don’t really want to get caught in, along with biting winds and the occasional flurry of snow.

It’s important, then, to be comfortable and happy in your home – and one way of doing that is to make sure that you’re warm and cosy. Here are some tips on how to achieve that…

Fix Any Draught

One absolutely crucial way to make sure that your home is warm throughout the winter is to fix any draughty corners of your house. Not only will that lower the cost of your energy bill, but it’ll help to secure your home against any intruders. Make sure that your doors and windows are fitted tight; if you’re still cold, hold up a lit candle in the direction that the draught is coming from, and see if it flickers. If so, you need to get your toolbox out again.

Install More Insulation

Houses can lose a huge amount of their heat through their roofs – just like we all lose a lot of our body heat through our heads! So it’s time to make sure that your house is wearing a warm thick metaphorical hat, by ensuring that there’s plenty of insulation lining your attic. If you find that isn’t the case, you can get insulation wadding from good hardware stores. You can also wrap it around pipes to prevent them from freezing during the cold weather.

Make Your Living Room Comfortable

Most of us spend a significant portion of our winter times huddled under blankets in our living rooms and becoming intimately acquainted with the contents of Netflix. If this sounds like you, it’s time to make your living room into even more of a cosy haven. Use warm colours in there – go for red and orange pillows and curtains. If it’s time for a new couch, you could even go for a red Chesterfield sofa for some real timeless elegance and style.

Get Cosy In Bed

If your bed isn’t quite warm enough and your partner’s icy toes aren’t doing anything to heat you up, then it’s time to go for some new bedding. Make sure that you get a duvet with a higher tog rating – this will be thicker and will keep you warmer at night. You could also get a thinner duvet to put over your normal one. This will have the added bonus of being easier to change when summer comes, and trapping warm air between the layers of covers.

Revamp Your Bathroom

When you get caught in the rain or snow, the best way to get warm when you get home is with a long hot shower. If your water pressure is poor or the water doesn’t stay hot for long enough, it’s time to call in a plumber. If it’s okay, light a relaxing scented candle – lavender will help you sleep better that evening – and drift away on a fragrant, humid cloud of warmth.
