When you think about it, your living room is the place where you spend most of your time relaxing. It’s here that you’re entertained and get to have conversations with your loved ones. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that your living room is offering you a decent quality of life. But all too often, our living rooms don’t maximise our comfort and enjoyment. And we can often feel like they have let us down. The following are some living room upgrades that actually make a difference to your quality of life.
Design your living room around socialisation
Human beings have always assembled in certain spaces. Ever since prehistoric times, we’ve enjoyed a get-together around the fire. And the situation is no different today. That’s why you should try to make your living room a bona fide social space. Start off by organising seating in a U-shape. And make sure that the fireplace is the focal point of the room. Also, make sure that there is a coffee table in the middle of the seating where people can put their drinks. Once all of this comes together, you’ll have a charming space in which to converse.
Install satellite TV
As much as we love our living rooms for their decor, we mustn’t forget about their function: entertainment. And when it comes to entertainment, there are plenty of options. One cool option is Freesat. With Freesat, you can get access to dozens of channels without having to pay a premium. If you want access to 24 hour news channels, this is ideal. Or, if you prefer music, there are channel catering to this too.
Atmospheric lighting
After a hard day’s work, you want to come back to a space that suits your mood. The last thing you want is to return to the same lighting that’s in your office. Home lighting should be adjustable. In the evening, you should be able to dim the light, or even change it’s colour, to suit the time of day. In the morning, the light should be bright, setting you up for the day ahead. Changing the level of light in your living room depending on the time of day will help you in other ways too. Using warmer, dimmer lights in the evening will help you drift off to sleep at night. And using cooler, brighter lights in the morning will help you wake up and be alert in the morning.
Organise space
If your living room is going to improve your quality of life, it needs a plan. Too many of us put up with cramped living room spaces that don’t actually meet our needs. Start off by defining how you want your living room to work for you. You need a space for entertainment, reading, and conversation. And you need somewhere you can go to have the odd drink or snack. Set aside a space for conversation or reading. And design the rest of the room with these areas in mind. If you’re tight on space, you can, of course, layer them up. But the point here is to make sure that your living room is actually doing what you want it to do.
