I’ve been saving up my rainy day fund for quite a while to spend it on something really worthwhile. If you don’t have a rainy day fund, I suggest you start one. What I do is I take money every month, and I put it aside into a separate account. And I use this account as my savings. After I’ve accrued a good amount of cash in there, I will spend it on something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
The trouble is there are so many things that this money could be spent on. And that’s the problem because I often struggle to decide. I can never narrow it down to any one particular thing. Here is my shortlist of things I have earmarked for my rainy day fund!
A Holiday With the Boyfriend
I need a holiday. I know everybody says that, but I really feel like I do. It has been a long year, and I could do with a change of scenery. The great thing is that the UK is such a wonderful place it’s not essential to go abroad. I could, of course, head away on a girl’s getaway as I have done in the past. But, this year I think I’d like to take a trip with me and the boyfriend. I’d even consider a weekend break in London or something. This would be a wonderful and much needed use of my rainy day fund.
Upgrade my Macbook
As a blogger I’m online a lot, and I’m using my MacBook Pro most of the time. The problem is that, as great as it is, it’s not ideal for transporting. I want something small and light that I can carry around in my handbag. And that’s why I’m thinking of buying a MacBook Air; it would be a godsend. It would help so much with my blogging, and would allow me to write on the move.
Home Improvements
Whether we like it or not, there’s always some sort of work that needs doing at home. Luckily, I have a new build so my ‘to do’ list is just cosmetic! However my parents have just splashed their rainy day fund on a new kitchen, and I know they’ve been eyeing up a DIY lean to conservatory. I’ll probably end up basking in the sunshine at theirs next summer if they do!
Shopping!
Every girl’s favourite pastime is shopping, and I am no exception to that rule. I love to shop, and I’m always dragging my poor boyfriend around the high street. So, with the money I’ve set aside I could go on a lovely shopping trip with some girlfriends. This is something we’ve talked about doing for a long while, but haven’t had the time or money to get around to yet. So I’m seriously considering doing this.
As you can see, I have quite a few choices for things I’d like to spend my money on. But narrowing it down to any single one is going to be difficult. It might just have to be a case of prioritising.
