Last Monday I turned the dreaded 23 years-old! Luckily my friends and family supported this traumatic event by pampering me all weekend and showering me with gifts. It made the whole ‘I’m definitely not even close to a teenager anymore’ transition a little bit easier. I already had the Monday booked off work, so it was destined to be a great long weekend from the beginning.
Friday I usually work an early shifted, so I leave the office at 4.30 – officially the party had begun! I’d been planning a spa weekend with my friends for weeks, so a couple of people from Bath, London and Birmingham made the trip down to Cornwall for my celebrations. It was also another friends birthday and after all her traveling for a short weekend, it was a given that we were going out in Falmouth on Friday. It was lovely to see everyone, and I managed to stop myself going overboard, adhering to my New Year resolution and saving myself for Saturday.

In the morning I woke up bright and early and got myself over to Mike’s house, ready to start cycling here from the Bissoe trial to Portreath. I haven’t got my own bike yet but it’s something I’m considering buying. I hired a mountain bike and Mike already had his own that he recently got from eBay. It was the first time the sun was actually out in what felt like forever, and luckily it didn’t rain. We went for lunch at the Atlantic cafe overlooking at beach.
Feeling worn and tired, we rushed around to get ready in preparation for an evening at Bedruthan Spa and Hotel. Bedruthan Hotel & Spa is a multi award-winning hotel with stunning ocean views across the Atlantic, as well as North Cornwall’s breathtaking coastline. I’ve dreamed of going there for ages but it’s quite far from where I live and I had heard it was fairly expensive.
Eight of us booked ourselves in for two hours in the beautiful spa and pool combined with a delicious two-course dinner in our Wild Café (including a glass of prosecco). When we arrived we sat around the sofas in the spa, lounging in our fluffy robes and drank peppermint tea.
The spa was gorgeous and had spectacular sea views, a deep and luxurious spa pool, a cedar sauna, eucalyptus steam room and a lavender caldarium. The two hours went ridiculously quickly, but the staff at Bedruthan bought us wine to enjoy in the jacuzzi before quickly getting ready to head upstairs of our meal, followed by more wine.
The Wild Cafe was awesome, with eames dining chairs and colourful decor. We had a set menu as part of our Spa and Dine deal, but was pleasantly surprised with what there was to choose from. We could choose from curry, pizza, squid, burgers, steak (£5 supplement) and lots of tasty desserts. I went for anchovy fritters and a traditional burger with some extras for my main (..and was too full for dessert!). Despite the offer being almost too good to refuse, Mike and I decided not to stay, but to return home with everybody else.
The next day was officially the laziest day ever. We even ended up having a nap, you’ll be surprised how exhausting relaxing can be! In the afternoon, we finally got up and went to Pizza Express with my parents and ate even more food! Once again, can’t complain. Utterly shattered by this point, and with Michael having work in the morning, an early night was needed.
Monday morning my friend had surprised me by booking me and my best friend into a spa day at Falmouth Hotel for both our birthdays (her’s at the end of the month). We started our morning by hitting the gym, followed by going for a swim and relaxing in the sauna. Followed by heading up to the spa for a 1 hour manicure, and then filled our bellies with cream tea whilst enjoying more sea views.
In the afternoon I headed back to my parents house to see my grandparents and the rest of my family. The afternoon then consisted of cake, presents and more wine. – Phwoar! What a weekend! Thank you to everyone that made it extra special.
It’s not even all over yet! I came into work to find my lovely colleagues bought me a bottle of wine, gave me a beautiful card full of signatures and a friend baked me a muffin – not to mention all of the cakes and cookies HR provided!
Furthermore, Michael has a surprised weekend booked for me taking me to Adrenaline Quarry on Saturday to go on the zip wire and the giant swing, as well as a spot of shopping and lunch in Plymouth followed by watching the Lion King live on stage. Let’s just hope this cold has budged by then! xo
