Your body can throw you massive curveballs sometimes. Out of nowhere you wake up with a killer sore throat or some back pain after a rough night’s sleep. I can picture the scene; it is all on the day I have an interview or a big presentation. So typical! There are a few things you can do to treat small niggles like this, with things you will have in at home. Then there is no need to pain about not being able to get an appointment at the doctors.
One of my friends has done a few Chinese Medicine Courses and I have learnt so much from her. So just sharing a little knowledge that I have learnt along the way. There are a few things that you should always have in at home. They are inexpensive and surprisingly effective.
Fresh Root Ginger
If you are feeling nauseous or sick, fresh root ginger is a must. One way to use it is to cut off a few slices and then infuse in hot, but not boiling, water. Leave for a few minutes, strain and then drink. If drinking warm drinks will make you feel worse, then make the same drink but pour it into ice cube trays. Then you could crush up the ice cubes in a blender when they are set, and munch on the ice chips. Cold things always help me to feel better when I feel sick too.
Garlic
If you wake up with a sore throat, you need garlic in your life. Crush and press 3 or 4 garlic cloves and mix into a glass with warm water. You then, wait for it, need to gargle this mixture. Don’t swallow it as that would be so grim! It works, though! The garlic works to kill the bacteria that is irritating your throat. The warm water helps to soothe a sore throat.
Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint helps to cool so it is great if you have a temperature, plus it smells so good. Rub a few drops on your forehead and the back of your neck and you will notice an instant cooling effect. You can also put into a spray bottle with water and use it to cool yourself down in hot temperatures. This repels creepy crawlies too. Bonus!
Honey & Lemon
If you feel like you are getting a cold, you need some honey and lemon. If you can nip a cold in the bud, it will shorten its life and severity. So get some as soon as you start to feel a little run down. Squeeze a lemon into a cup with some warm water and add a few spoonfuls of honey. Manuka honey is best if you have it. Then drink it all up! The vitamin C in this drink helps to fight the virus and the honey helps to soothe a sore throat and boost your immunity.
Do you have any tried and tested home remedies that you swear by? I’d love to hear what you think.
